Lenny’s target for Hibs hitmen

- By JOHN McGILL

NEIL LENNON has urged his Hibs side to find the goals to take them another step closer to the Ladbrokes Championship title.

The Easter Road outfit will be without top scorer Jason Cummings when they host Dumbarton on Saturday.

The striker netted his 20th goal of the season to hand Lennon’s men a crucial win over Dundee United last Friday.

But he then needlessly got himself sent off after picking up a pair of yellow cards – the first for throwing the ball away after being caught offside, the second for punching a cross into the Tangerines net.

Lennon is frustrated he will be without his chief marksman but reckons the other members of his squad can provide the league leaders with the necessary firepower.

He said: “Jason’s goals have been unbelievable. He’s scored in big games for us.

“It was a silly sending off but it still turned out to be his goal which won the game for us last week.

“That’s a hard player for us to replace. However, we do have James Keatings, Brian Graham, Grant Holt, Martin Boyle, Andrew Shinnie and John McGinn who have all got goals in them.

“Hopefully it won’t be too big a loss.”

Hibs have a six-point cushion as well as a game in hand on second-placed Falkirk but Lennon reckons his side will not get it all their own way when the seventh-placed Sons visit Edinburgh.

“They are stodgy and hard to break down - but that’s their right to play that way,” said the Northern Irishman.

“We need to show patience. The expectation from the outside will be that it is an easy three points for Hibs.

“But there are no easy games in this league. More or less every team is playing for something, whether it be promotion, the play-offs or to avoid relegation.

“So it is still competitive right up until the last couple of games of the season and Saturday will be no different.”
