- By CATRIONA STEWART

KIND-HEARTED neighbours are fundraising for a grandmother brutally beaten in her own home.

Locals are determined to show Theresa Campbell there is good in the world after she was left with black eyes and broken ribs.

Mrs Campbell’s daughter, Stacey Clements, posted images of her mother’s injuries on Facebook.

She wrote: “These low life scum hurt my mum so bad she will be mentally and physically scarred for life.

“I want everyone to know what they have done to my mother who would never hurt a fly.”

Mrs Campbell suffered a number of serious injuries, including broken ribs, black eyes and a broken nose during the incident.

The 46-year-old was allegedly beaten with a table leg before being dragged down the stairs by two men.

The attack is understood to have taken place in Viewpark, Uddingston, on Saturday when Mrs Campbell opened the door to the men. She said she has now been left housebound for fear of leaving her home.

Mrs Campbell added: “I’m feeling very sore and in fear. I have my family and friends at the house all the time now.

“I haven’t been able to leave the house since Saturday. I’m too scared.”

Local Gail Gillon set up a Crowdfunding page in response and wrote: “Theresa Campbell is a 46-year-old lady who is well known for being kind hearted.

“A vulnerable woman in her own home was beaten without any provocation and will now face years of fear.

“Please help to bring a bit of comfort to this poor soul. Dig deep to show her that there are good people who are hurting for her.”

Police Scotland confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the incident on Saturday morning.

A spokeswoman said: “A 20-year-old man has been arrested for an alleged assault in Mulberry Road, Viewpark, in the early hours of Saturday morning and was expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court.”
