Volunteer hunt for 2018 multi-sport event

AN ‘army’ of volunteers is being recruited to take part in one of the city’s biggest events.

Volunteers are being sought to offer a hand to the thousands of athletes, visitors and officials set to attend the Glasgow 2018 European Championsh­ips.

THE search is on to find an army of volunteers to be the welcoming face of one of the biggest events held in the city.

More than 3,000 volunteers are being recruited to take part in the Glasgow 2018 European Championsh­ips.

Applicatio­ns officially opened this morning for those keen to help athletes, officials, media and specta- tors as they visit Glasgow next year.

The Glasgow 2018 Volunteers Programme was launched at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall and was attended by a team of Glasgow 2018 Volunteeri­ng Champions and Still Game star Sanjeev Kohli, who has been named as an official Volunteeri­ng Ambassador.

The volunteer team will be one the most ambitious and inclusive volunteeri­ng ever undertaken in Scotland, with the Glasgow 2018 volunteers set to be right at the heart of the inaugural European Championsh­ips.

A combinatio­n of of Athletics, Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon along with a new Golf team championsh­ips will be taking part in the event, expected to be at- tended by around 250,000 people. Glasgow 2018 Championsh­ips Director Colin Hartley said: “The Glasgow 2018 European Championsh­ips promises to be a memorable event for the whole city and our volunteers will be at its heart.”
