After travelling from Malta to Manchester Mylesfindshishome

- By GRAEME McGARRY

MYLES BEERMAN has travelled from Malta to Manchester and onto Murray Park in pursuit of his dream of making it in professional football, and now he feels ready to make his mark in the Rangers first-team.

The Maltese youngster has impressed in the Rangers under-20s this season, and he is currently away with his country’s under-20 side as they prepare f or a European Championships qualifier against Belgium.

“We have the talent here to come through and challenge for a place in the first team. We work hard day-in, day-out and try to do our best to get an opportunity, and whoever gets one has to seize it straight away, because you won’t get an opportunity every week,” Beerman said.

“If someone steps out of the first-team injured and you get your chance you’ve got to take it. The talent is really good, and I have no doubt that there are players here ready to challenge for the senior team.

“The standards set are really high, and the standards we have to meet away from the club as well have to be high because at the end of the day, we’re representing Rangers.

“The professionalism is high, and that’s part and parcel of being a Rangers player.

“I take things year by year and concentrate on developing as a player, and whenever I do make the breakthrough to the first team I know I’ll still be developing as a player.

“I just have to be patient, work hard and take my chance when it comes.

“Whenever some of us step in and train with the first team it’s a massive step, both technically and in sharpness.

“The players do help us a lot when we do go up and encourage us, going out of their way to make us feel a part of the team, so that’s really good.

“Things are going well, I’ve been playing week-in, weekout, I’m enjoying my football and the lads are brilliant around the changing room.

“All-in-all, things have gone really well for me and I’m really happy.”

Beerman has had to adapt to life in the UK away from his family after leaving Malta in pursuit of his dream, moving initially to Manchester City before making the switch to Glasgow last summer.

“It’s a bit colder here than what I’m used to back home in Malta, but the move to Manchester City was great for me,” he said.

“The facilities are amazing and the city is great and this represents another step forward for me in fulfilling my dream of playing at the highest level.

“I was just a normal kid from Malta chasing a dream, but I worked hard for it and as soon as I got my opportunity I grasped it straight away.

“I can’t describe the feeling of coming over here and playing football somewhere like this.

“People might not think that going from Manchester City to Rangers is a step up, but it’s another stepping stone for me towards first-team football, and the opportunity was amazing for me.

“Once I get my chance I will make sure that I take it. At City I was just playing youth football, but here I am just one step away from the first team and it seems a lot closer.”

If Beerman is to make the grade at Rangers, it would make him one of the best footballers from Malta, and it is a goal he has his sights set firmly on.

He loves working under coach Graeme Murty, and he is determined not to let him down, or his family back home.

“Ever since I was little it was always my dad and my family who gave me the motivation to want to make it, because I’ve always had that thing where I want to be one of the most successful footballers to have come out of Malta,” he said.

“I want to do it for my family because they’ve sacrificed a lot for me, so it’s only fair to do it back for them. That’s my main motivation and I just hope that I can do it.”
