Trainspotting auction set to boost Glasgow charity
A GLASGOW charity is set to benefit from a worldwide online auction of costumes from the movie T2 Trainspotting.
Gallowgate based Calton Athletic, which helps people recover from drug and alcohol addiction, will benefit from the sale of 130 costumes and props from the film.
They include the post fight costume worn by Renton played by Ewan McGregor and the finale costume worn by Robert Carlyle who stars as Begbie.
The auction of items from Danny Boyle’s hit sequel has been organised by London and Los Angeles based Prop Store which is one of the world’s leading film and TV memorabilia companies.
As well as costumes, a number of props will also go under the hammer including Renton’s Iggy Pop “Lust for Life” vinyl and sleeve and Renton’s childhood home record player.
The auction starts on Monday at 5pm and will run until Friday, April 21, with bids expected from around the globe.
Organisers decided Calton Athletic, who were finalists in the Evening Times north east community champion awards, was a natural choice to support as it was key to accessing the drugs world portrayed in the film.
The charity and Trainspotting have been linked since the first movie was released more than 20 years ago.
The opening of the original movie features the movie’s stars playing the Calton Athletic five-a-side team.
Stephen Lane, Prop Store chief executive officer, said: “T2 Trainspotting is a film that was highly anticipated by fans of Danny Boyle’s original which certainly didn’t disappoint.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer these great props and costumes while supporting two fantastic charities which are doing terrific things for communities in Scotland.”
Calton Athletic, which has to generate its own funds, has been helping people recover from drug and alcohol addiction since 1985.
It aims to provide support through weekly recovery meetings as well as physical activity.
The other charity to benefit from the auction is Edinburgh based The Junction which offers health related services, education and support to young people.
