describe the game. I think the team understood perfectly well the opponent we were facing.

“What we should’ve done in all the moments of the game we did.

“And when the team needed to suffer, the team knows how to suffer. Especially on the first 15-20 minutes of the second half when they go all the way.

“We needed to take good decisions in those moments. They were exposing the two full-backs and maybe we recognised it was time to expose the space they were leaving at the back.

“First of all, you know that you are going to have two games against Aberdeen. We’ve played the first one and we’ve won it. We need to continue winning and win the next one also.

“Our focus is always on the next match.”

Caixinha will soon make his Old Firm bow as Rangers prepare for a league and cup double header against Celtic.

But the Ibrox boss won’t look any further than the Premiership clash with Partick Thistle this weekend as he assesses his squad ahead of his first full campaign at the helm.

He said: “We were facing a fantastic team in their own stadium.

“The most important thing now is that when you have work in front of you and need to build.

“We need to keep going like this because this is the only way I know and it’s the only way at this club that we’re serving demands.”

“We still have one game before [the Old Firm]. It would be a great mistake from myself to prepare for a game two weeks in advance when we have one in the middle.

“I will send a message to our players: ‘If some of them think they can slow down on Saturday they will not be playing at Hampden.’”
