Donati’s despair at travel sickness

- By ALASDAIR MACKENZIE

HAMILTON midfielder Massimo Donati has admitted his side’s dismal away form is behind their current plight but believes his Accies team-mates are up for the relegation fight.

The Italian veteran scored a superb opener during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Ross County, a game that was marred by the controversial red card for Accies defender Ioannis Skondras on the stroke of half-time.

Martin Canning’s side went on to earn a point that lifted them to 10th place above Motherwell, continuing an impressive run of home form that has seen them avoid defeat at the SuperSeal Stadium since Christmas Eve last year.

However, Accies’ away form has been the polar opposite and they travel to Dundee this weekend on the back of five defeats in their last six league trips, a slump Donati knows must end if they are to avoid the drop.

“I think we are in this position because maybe in the games away we never win, and that is a problem because sometimes in one season you need to do two or three winning games away,” said the 36-year-old former AC Milan and Celtic man.

“We didn’t have that and that is a problem – that’s maybe why we are in this position. But we don’t think about the past, we just think about what we have to do in the next games because they’re so important.”

Hamilton travel to Dens Park on Saturday in the final game before the split to face a Dee side on a six-match losing run and the Italian believes his side’s recent displays should give them confidence of getting a positive result.

He said: “Every point is so important, but I think the performance of the team in the last few weeks was very good and every one of us has played hard because we want to stay in the Premiership.

“We’ve got massive games coming up, and we will be ready. The important thing is the performances are good like today and last week.

“If the performance there is like this, maybe we can have three points.”
