Crime Reporter A GANG of teenage thugs beat up and used a blade on a man in broad daylight in Ibrox – for a mobile phone.

The 28-year-old victim was targeted at 7.15am on Wednesday as he was walking on Paisley Road West close to Midlock Street.

Police said the gang surrounded their victim before they carried out the violent attack.

He was punched and kicked to ground before the gang stole his mobile phone.

The man was left seriously injured, with some injuries consistent with a bladed weapon or similar having been used during the attack.

He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was released following treatment for serious injuries.

Cops are now hunting for the ruthless teen gang and say they are between the ages of 15 and 19, and are reported to have made off in the direction of Midlock Street.

The first suspect was described as a white teenage boy, around 5 ft 10 ins, with a slim athletic build. He was wearing a light or grey jacket with his hood up, dark trousers and white trainers.

Detective Constable Jessica Burns, Govan CID, who is leading the enquiry, said: “This was a shockingly violent attack which cannot be tolerated. We are doing everything we can to identify the teenagers involved and to ensure they are held to account.

“We have been analysing CCTV and conducting door to door enquiries. At this time we are seeking anyone with information to come forward.”
