Gaffer: I’ll help Danny revive his cap career

- By CHRIS JACK

IBROX boss Pedro Caixinha hopes he can help Danny Wilson resurrect his international career as he backs him to go from strength to strength at Ibrox.

The defender has helped Rangers keep clean sheets at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen in recent days as he has led by example at the heart of the Light Blues’ rearguard.

He has not appeared for Scotland since turning out against the Czech Republic six years ago but Caixinha has faith in his Gers stopper.

He said: “He is a very good player, I have a lot of confidence in him and I think he will still grow within games.

“If someone goes to Liverpool at a young age and to have played for the Scottish national team, he needs to have a strong character and of course a lot of quality.

“I believe he can get on that path because he has the potential and the quality to do that and I will be pleased if I can get him in that direction again.”

Wilson has been joined at the back by youngsters David Bates and Myles Beerman and is in line to keep his starting spot against Partick Thistle this weekend.

The 25-year-old will require surgery on his nose after a bruising encounter at Pittodrie on Sunday but will delay going under the knife as Rangers prepare for a huge run of league and cup ties.

Caixinha said: “Danny’s nose isn’t broken, which is good. He doesn’t need to have any kind of intervention, so he can train.

“I think Danny can be the leader of this defence for the coming years. He knows how to build from the back and has a fantastic left foot. He can play long balls wide, long diagonal balls and finding spaces by the domino principle to find the space between the lines.”
