Candidates bid to seal your vote in council poll

-

THE candidates were given their opportunity to state why their party should get your vote on the elections on May 4.

Before and after the question and answer form the audience each gave their opening and closing statements. MARTIN BARTOS, Scottish Greens, said: “If you vote for a Green you get a councillor who will ensure that all these warring tribes are held to account to get credible outcomes that deliver for the people of Glasgow.

“On waste, recycling safe public transport, cycling, decent quality education, all these things you will get our work on if you give us your preference.” CAROLE FORD, Liberal Democrats, said: “Education must be improved. you can’t just chuck money at our schools.

“Public transport is one of our key priorities. Crossrail looks like it ought to go ahead and looks like it is affordable.” EUAN BLOCKLEY, Conservatives, said: “We need to build houses on brownfield sites. the approach of government and council is to go for greenfield sites.

“We need more houses but need to work with local people and not build on green spaces.” SUSAN AITKEN, SNP, said: “Glasgow City council doesn’t listen to communities. that is the change that we want to take place. The culture of the council has to change.” FRANK McAVEETY, Labour, said: “Glasgow needs a champion who will never shy away from making Glasgow’s case for the resources our great city needs to deliver for the people of Glasgow.”
