Morethan100motorists quizzed in robbery probe

- By HOLLY LENNON

MORE than one hundred potential witnesses have been spoken to as part of an investigation into a robbery in Giffnock.

Officers made a public appeal on Monday to trace three masked men who held an elderly woman at knifepoint before making off with £4500 in cash.

Bilqis Chaudry, 69, was alone at her home in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire, when the men forced their way in, after cutting phone lines and removing CCTV cameras.

Officers quizzed 116 members of the public on Rouken Glen Road a week on from the incident in a bid to track down those responsible.

Police have said that they received an ‘encouraging’ response to their enquiries.

It is thought that the masked robbers and their driver fled down the busy road shortly after the incident around 6pm on Monday, April 10.

Their getaway was briefly interrupted by Mrs Chaudry’s nephew Iffy Bashir and other relatives who caught the men on camera after arriving at the house to pick up furniture.

Detective Inspector Ian Hylands, who is leading the investigation, said the pensioner was struggling to come to terms with the ordeal.

He said: “We want to speak to anyone who may have been driving down Rouken Glen Road last week, who may have any information.

“This was a horrific ordeal for the victims of this crime, which happened in their own home.

“The family are finding it difficult to come to terms with what they have been through.”

It is not thought that the perpetrators targeted the family home or that the incident is related to similar robberies in the area.

The men are described as being dressed in dark clothing, with masks on their faces.

They fled in a dark-coloured Volvo vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Giffnock police officer or call 101.
