Murts in no doubt kids will rally back

- By CHRIS JACK

GRAEME MURTY is confident his Rangers kids will react in the right way after missing out on Youth Cup success at Hampden.

The Light Blues were beaten 3-0 by Celtic as goals from Sam Wardrop, Calvin Miller and Aidan McIlduff clinched a comfortable win for the Hoops.

Murty fielded a youthful Gers line-up for a shot at glory but sloppy defensive errors cost his side dear against their Old Firm rivals.

And the Under-20 boss knows his Auchenhowie kids must quickly get over the disappointment and get back on track as they set their sights on the Ibrox first team.

Murty said: “They have to learn from it. We have to be better on the ball and we have to maintain our belief and the mindset that we will come out on top no matter what the opposition throw at us.

“If you are going to represent this football club, hopefully in Europe and in front of 50,000 people, then things can’t knock you back as much as they did.

“They didn’t sustain the level that I know they are capable of and that is a disappointment. I can’t fault their application but they never showcased their ability and what they are good at.

“Credit to Celtic. They had a good game plan and they have some good players. But we have make sure our players use the disappointment as a fuel to take the trophy off them next year.

“That is what I will be trying to do. We have to get better every single day and put demands on them.

“The reaction has to be right. If the reaction isn’t right then they are not going to fill a Rangers first team shirt. That is the ultimate aim.”
