Waitinggame for Clint over newIbroxdeal

- By CHRIS JACK

CLINT HILL hopes boss Pedro Caixinha will give him a chance to make up for a frustrating first season at Rangers and extend his Ibrox stay.

The defender is out of contract at the end of the campaign and has yet to be offered a deal to remain in Glasgow next term.

Caixinha is set to inform his squad in the coming days who he is looking to move on during the summer as he prepares for his first full campaign at the helm.

Hill said: “It has been that way for a few years so I am used to it. I am quite relaxed about it.

“I was settled down south but for six years I was in the same situation. I have experienced how it goes

“All my family are there and my three kids are in school. They have enjoyed their time up here and have made great friends.

“They will be sad to say goodbye but that is life as a footballer and you never know where you are going to go.

“I would love to stay. It is hard because it is up to one man really and only he can answer the question. Hopefully this time next week I can give you a better answer.”

It has been a forgettable campaign for Rangers as they have underachieved on their return to the top flight.

Hill has been a steady influence at the heart of the Light Blues defence and many fans would like to see him sign on for another season.

The Gers squad have come in for fierce criticism in recent days but Hill is eager for another chance after settling into life in Glasgow.

He said: “It should anger you as a player really. Nobody likes to have fingers pointed and people saying ‘you are not good enough’.

“But that comes with the territory of playing for such a big club with an illustrious past of winning trophies and being at the club.

Rangers turned in their worst performance of the campaign last weekend as Celtic ran out 5-1 winners at Ibrox to record a second consecutive Old Firm triumph.

And Hill hopes the Light Blues will learn from their mistakes after a heating exchange in the home dressing room at the full-time whistle.

He said: “Of course we had words afterwards. I made a few things quite clear and so did a couple of the other lads.

“You’re just trying to get your frustration out but there’s not much you can do about it after the game.

“We’ll need to learn from that if we’re going to impose ourselves on the league next season more than we did this time out.”
