-

THERE was a tot takeover at Knightswood Library to help launch Bookbug’s Giggly Grand Tour of Glasgow.

Pre-school youngsters will meet Bookbug as part of part of Scottish Book Trust’s annual celebration of reading and rhyme, Bookbug Week.

From May 15 to 20 more than 1000 children are expected to catch the reading bug in libraries and community centres across the city.

More than 30 tots and their families descended on Knightswood Library yesterday to help the Bookbug launch his Giggly Grand Tour of Glasgow, as part of Scottish Book Trust’s annual, nationwide celebration of reading and rhyme, Bookbug Week.

More than 1,000 Glaswegians are expected to catch the reading bug in libraries and community centres city-wide as the Giggly Grand Tour sweeps through the city.

Andrew Olney, head of Glasgow Libraries, said: “I’m delighted that Bookbug will be coming on tour to Glasgow Libraries and Community Centres to open young children’s minds up to the wonder of books and story-time, enabling our youngest citizens to reap the benefits of reading throughout the whole of their life.

“Bookbug week offers the youngest Glaswegians the chance to explore the magical world of books whilst aiding child development, but it’s also about families coming together to have fun and spend time learning and playing together.”
