Warning to Tigers in Blades showdown

- SPORTSWIDE

GLASGOW will have to be on top form if they want to earn their stripes at Sheffield tomorrow, according to club chiefs.

The Yorkshire Tigers have won five of their seven meetings so far and have two meetings in hand over their Scottish counterparts.

It’s expected Nike Lunna will make his racing return for Glasgow after a spell out with a broken thumb, while Richie Worrall moves to No.1 thanks to his superb start to the season.

Richard Lawson will line up at five as Glasgow try to combat the firepower of Sheffield’s in-form Kyle Howarth.

Stewart Dickson’s men have secured at least a point in their nine fixtures so far – but he admits they face their toughest test yet in keeping that run going.

He said: “They are in blistering form at home. It’s going to be tough to keep the record of getting a point at every venue, home or away.

“They’re handing out some skelpings to teams round there so we’re under no illusions about how tough it’ll be.

“It’s another big test for us, because they are real title challengers. They were one of my strong tips at the start of the season. Everybody needs to be on their game.”

Title favourite Simona Halep could miss the French Open after a scan revealed ankle ligament damage.

The Romanian world No.4 four suffered the injury in the final of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome last weekend. Doctors have given her a 50-50 chance of playing.

Meanwhile, Gilles Simon came from behind to beat Britain’s Kyle Edmund 3-6 7-5 6-4 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Lyon Open.

Frenchman Pierre Rolland broke clear to claim a superb win in the 17th stage of the Giro d’Italia.

Rolland got clear of the pack eight kilometres from the end of the 219km stage and powered to victory.
