Second tragedy as Jodie sister dies at 14

A HEARTBROKEN mother has paid tribute to her daughter who died in her sleep at just 14.

Taylor Muir died in the early hours of Monday morning after her heart stopped beating.

Her death comes after her sister Jodie passed away in 2014. It is understood that hospital staff could not bring the teenager back to life. She went into a cardiac arrest at her dad Peter’s home in the Gorbals area of the city.

The girls’ mum Laura McArthur said: “Words can’t describe the hurt and emptiness I feel right now.

“I will forever love and miss both my daughters Jodie and Taylor – my world, my best friends, now my angels.”

Jodie was only 16 when she was found dead in bed after coming back from a house party in Rutherglen the night before. Her death prompted a Police Scotland warning about drugs but her family said that it was a heart condition which caused her death. It is understood that the same condition caused Taylor’s death. Both girls attended Eastbank Academy in Glasgow’s Shettleston area.

Yesterday, Taylor’s death prompted an online fundraising appeal which has so far collected more than £7,500.

It is believed that the appeal was set up by family friends.

In a statement online, those friends said: “Our beautiful angel Taylor Muir passed away in the early hours of Monday morning. Her heart simply stopped beating and the hospital staff could not bring her back.

“Taylor was only 14 and had her full life ahead of her. Taylor was not only beautiful inside and out but she was so comical and always made us laugh and smile.”

It continued: “Taylor’s older sister Jodie Muir died in her sleep only two years ago. To lose one child is devastating but to lose two is utterly cruel and heartbreaking. This fund has been set up to help our friends Laura and Peter so they can give Taylor the send off she truly deserves.

“Laura has been fundraising tirelessly for ‘Cardiac Risk in the Young’ to allow teenagers to be screened for underlying heart conditions which has been a huge success.”

A special tribute for Taylor will take place on Friday at 7pm.

Her friends and family will release balloons and lanterns at Eastbank Academy.

Mum Laura added: “I hope everyone can meet and send some love to heaven for my baby Taylor.”
