Moult is committed to Wellcause,saysRobbo

- By SCOTT MULLEN

LOUIS MOULT is committed to playing for Motherwell according to his manager Stephen Robinson. The Fir Park club’s top goalscorer two seasons on the trot has been touted for moves to Rangers, England and abroad in recent months but Robinson insists there is no doubting his striker’s professionalism in this transfer window.

During January Motherwell turned down several offers for Moult, with the former Wrexham man eventually going on to equal the previous term’s tally of 18 goals. This was a big part in attracting him to Rangers who made an approach to Well bosses about their prized asset.

The 25-year-old remained tightlipped about his future when speaking to SportTimes last month, but his manager remains sure that speculation about his future will not drip on to the park for Motherwell.

“We had a couple of rounds of initial talks but nothing that came to fruition. So we’ve no update on Louis,” he said. “I’m hopeful he will be here at the start of the season but no-one knows what will happen in the next three or four weeks.

“We’re dictated to by what people will pay for him. If the right offer comes in then we won’t stand in the boy’s way. I want to keep him here and build a team. He’s a massive part of that.

“We have a contingency plan. If someone like Louis went we’d have the money to bring someone else in bug you can’t do that until you get that money. We’ve got other targets but you don’t know what you’ve got to spend.

“We know what we want for him. But I also know that if he stays here he’ll give absolutely everything for the club. If the right offer comes in we’ll shake his hand and wish him well but I’d love him to stay here.

“I’ve spoken to him on numerous occasions and we’ve got a great relationship. He’s a brilliant, clever boy. We both know you can’t keep players when other clubs are maybe offering you the chance to play in front of 40-50,000 people. He’s a boy who is fully committed.”

Robinson’s rebuilding job at Motherwell moved on to new phase yesterday with the unveiling of Hartlepool goalkeeper Trevor Carson on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

THE 29-year-old is the third signing this week with more expected in the coming days.

“He’s a terrific signing for us, he’s 29 years old and I have high hopes for him looking forward – he’s a very good addition to the goalkeeping department,” said Robinson about his new recruit.

“I’ve been chasing Trevor all summer so to get it over the line is fantastic, our chief scout Martin Foyle has been brilliant and we look forward to working with him.”

One player whose future remains unclear is captain Keith Lasley. The midfielder appears to have triggered an extension to his playing deal that was due to expire in the summer. His manager said, though: “Keith’s still got a playing contract after triggering a deal. He’s on holiday at the moment so I’ve not had the chance to sit down and chat to him. We’ll see where we go from there.”
