Griffiths: I’ll get off the mark

I’ll be in the manager’s plans. There are a lot of options for him when it comes to playing that lone striker role but I’ll work hard and, if the manager puts me in there, I’ll be raring to go.”

Griffiths played at Wembley, but wasn’t give much of a sight on goal on a night he felt his team deserved more than what in the end was a comprehensive defeat.

The Celtic star said: “I don’t believe that we did ourselves j ustice at Wembley, even though I didn’t feel that the 3-0 scoreline was a fair reflection on the play.

“You look at the chances we had and the fact that they had three headers and three goals – but we’ll work on that.”

Griffiths hopes the win over Slovenia last time out and the feel-good factor which came with it will help the players this weekend.

He said: “We played well that night and England could only draw against them so that shows we can get a result.

“But we need to play well and that means having 11 players – or probably 14, with guys coming off the bench – giving their all.

“The fact that it’s at Hampden will also make a difference. The crowd gets right behind you and, as long as we start on the front foot, the noise levels will be incredible.

“If we could have scored with our early chances against Slovenia it would have made a difference but we kept going and that’s what the fans want to see.

“I’ve had a few games under my belt in the last month and I’m feeling good about myself. ”

Celtic, meanwhile, revealed they will face BW Linz in Rohrbach on Wednesday, June 28 before facing Rapid Vienna in Amstetten on Saturday, July 1 during a pre-season break in Austria.
