-

A MAN directed a tirade of racial abuse at police officers after the were called to a disturbance.

Farrakh Khan was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court for assaulting a police officer.

The 34-year-old also called an officer a “white baldy b*****d” and a “black b*****d” after being taken to a police station.

The court heard that police were called out to the home of Khan’s mother and father as the ambulance service needed their help.

At the property in Hillhead, the accused was observed to be under the influence of alcohol and his family were clearly concerned about him.

The accused went on to tell the police that he had only drank a small amount of alcohol and did not receive medical attention.

Police then had reason to check their system and found that Khan was in fact breaking bail conditions he had received from court at an earlier date which led to officers going in to make the arrest.

It was at this point he lunged forward and headbutted one of the officers on the nose.

He was restrained and a cell van was called to the scene. While on route the police station he started to make racial remarks.

Khan admitted that on May 19 this year at Cecil Street he assaulted a police officer by headbutting him on the head to his injury.

He further admitted that on May 19, he behaved in a threatening and abusive manner shouting and wearing at police officers, struggling with them.

He also uttered offensive racial remarks at them.

He also admitted to breaking his bail conditions on the same day after he failed to stay in his home address of Cranworth Street between the hours of 7pm and 7am. He was admonished and dismissed for this charge.

Khan’s solicitor said his client was at his mother and father’s home before his curfew but stayed later due to concern surrounding his father.

The accused went on to say, through his solicitor, he wasn’t able to carry out any form of unpaid work.

Khan was sentenced to six months in prison.
