Policeurge­twowomento come forward in rape case

TWO women who may hold vital clues about a sex attack have been urged by police to come forward.

A teenager is recovering after being raped in Paisley town centre by a man she had arranged to meet.

The 18-year-old woman was attacked after going into a wooded area with the man at Meetinghou­se Lane on Thursday, June 1, between 7pm and 7.50pm.

She reported the incident to police a short time later.

Two woman were seen talking to each other outside the entrance to the walled area at around 7.40pm.

They then walked through the town centre and were seen near Paisley Gilmour Street, five minutes later.

Police said it was “absolutely vital” to speak to the pair.

The first woman is described as wearing a blue and white distinctiv­e patterned jacket with the hood up, blue jeans and grey trainers.

The second woman is described as having dark brown hair tied back in a ponytail and was wearing a white jacket, blue jeans and black trainers with white soles and laces.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff, from Paisley CID, said: “A young woman has been subjected to a serious sexual assault by someone she knew and officers have been carrying out extensive inquiries to establish the full circumstan­ces surroundin­g this incident.

“As part of our investigat­ion it is absolutely vital that we speak to the two woman who were seen in the nearby area around the time of the assault.

“I would appeal to them to please come forward to speak to our officers as they may hold crucial informatio­n that could help us with our inquiries.”
