- By CAROLINE WILSON

WOULD you like to start running but break into a sweat even at the thought of it?

The organisers of this year’s Great Scottish Run 10K are offering one lucky person from Glasgow a personal training package and a free, VIP entry to the race on Sunday, October 1.

Race sponsors the Bank of Scotland are launching a Community Challenge this year which will recruit one person from each of the 32 Local Authorities in Scotland for a ‘10-week to 10K’ plan.

The winners will receive complimentary entry, a personalised training programme by a Great Run expert coach and access to the VIP area at the finish line.

To enter, all you have to do is explain in up to 100 words what has inspired you to take up the challenge.

Philip Grant, chairman of Scottish Executive Committee, Lloyds Banking Group part of BoS, said: “It will be great to welcome runners from communities all over Scotland to be a part of our first Community Challenge, to hear their inspirational stories and follow their journey to race day.

“This challenge is a fantastic addition to the event and adds to our aim to help Scotland prosper and make a difference in our local communities.

“I’m really looking forward to watching their progress and learning more about them on the lead up to the event.”

Scotland’s biggest weekend of running will take place on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1.

More than 30,000 runners are expected to take part in the 10K, half marathon and family events, which start in George Square and finish in the tree-lined shadow of Nelson’s Monument.

The half marathon action will be captured live on BBC Two Scotland.

To apply for the 10k challenge contact communitychallenge@ greatscottishrun.com and explain in 100 words what has inspired you to take up the challenge and start running, and which Local Authority you are representing.

The closing date for applications is midnight on June 27. Successful participants will be informed on or before July 6.
