Hayes set to clinch £1.3mCeltsmove

- By ALISON McCONNELL

ABERDEEN have accepted a £1.3m offer for Jonny Hayes with Ryan Christie also part of the deal.

The 29-year-old Republic of Ireland internationalist is set to become the first signing of the current summer window for Celtic after the clubs agreed a deal yesterday afternoon.

Hayes scored against the Parkhead side in the William Hill Scottish Cup Final – which Celtic win with a last minute Tom Rogic goal to complete the Treble – and it is believed he will curtail a family holiday to return to Glasgow for a medical.

Hayes was part of Martin O’Neill’s Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifier against Austria last Sunday and scored 11 goals in all competitions last season for Aberdeen.

Cardiff were also keen on Hayes but the player’s personal preference was to go to Celtic, with Neil Warnock admitting on Monday that they had been force to drop their interest in the player.

Hayes signed for Aberdeen on a free transfer from Inverness in 2012, making nearly 200 appearances and scoring 30 goals for the Dons.

Meanwhile, reports yesterday from Reto Ziegler that the Parkhead side had offered him a deal appear wide of the mark.

The former Spurs and Juventus defender had claimed in a Swiss newspaper that he had been approached by Celtic as well as Real Betis, however sources within the club were quick to dismiss his quotes.

Brendan Rodgers has also been linked with Adnan Januzaj.

The Belgium international spent last season on loan at Sunderland and with a year left on his contract, Manchester United are believed to be preparing to offload him this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are both tracking the 22-year-old, with Celtic also keeping tabs on the player.

Januzaj is not expected to be part of Jose Mourinho’s longterm plans at Old Trafford but any permanent deal is expected to include a buy-back option within his contract.

Ryan Kent, a 20-year-old winger at Liverpool has also emerged as a possible loan addition for the Hoops.

Celtic will reportedly face competition from other sides, including Championship outfit Leeds United, for the player’s signature.

Kent has had loan spells at Coventry and Barnsley and was named Barnsley’s Young Player of the Season after his contribution.

The winger has been capped at England under-18 and under-20 level.
