Director will free up Pedro, says Stew

- By CHRIS JACK

STEWART ROBERTSON reckons the arrival of Mark Allen as director of football will help Pedro Caixinha focus on delivering success at Ibrox.

Rangers confirmed the appointment of Allen this week and he will leave his role as director of academy at Manchester City to make the move north of the border.

The Light Blues have overhauled their first team squad this summer as Caixinha prepares for the Europa League qualifiers and new Premiership campaign.

It is the Portuguese that has been at the forefront of the rebuilding job as Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio, Daniel Candeias and Alfredo Morelos, Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Pena have arrived at Ibrox.

And managing director Robertson is confident Allen will play a key role in the market as he gets set to head up Rangers’ football operations.

“[Pedro didn’t speak to Mark] before he was recruited, but he has now had a conversation with him,” Robertson said.

“Pedro’s responsibility is to get the first team playing as well as he can.

“Mark is not like an experienced manager looking over the shoulder of a young manager.

“It’s all about putting structures in place that will stand us in good stead for the future.

“It will be about scouting and recruitment and the succession planning of the team. We also need to recognise who we are in the food chain in terms of selling players on.

“We want to create that revenue chain, but to do that we obviously have to bring the players through and then replace the players that you have sold.

“That’s where Mark’s experience from Manchester City will come in, albeit with different resources.”
