Caixinha puts final touches on prep

- By CHRIS JACK

PEDRO CAIXINHA hopes Rangers can keep improving as they finalise their pre-season preparations in the coming days.

The Portuguese has spent the last fortnight putting his side through their paces as the countdown continues to the new campaign.

Rangers will return to competitive action when they face Progres Niederkorn in the first round of the Europa League next Thursday.

And Caixinha reckons his side are heading into the Ibrox clash in positive shape as they look to hit the ground running against their opponents from Luxembourg.

He said: “I am pleased with the progress we’ve made this pre-season; it’s about progress.

“There have been a lot of training sessions, a lot of very good training sessions where the boys are identifying how we want them to perform in each moment.

“That becomes clearer and more understandable when they have got into the game situation in the two matches we have played. We will continue to prepare, we still have one more game against St Johnstone and the games give you a clear idea to assess which areas you need to improve and that is what I am doing.

“There are small things you need to keep improving so for example we missed a lot of scoring chances and we need to be more aggressive to attack the scoring positions. We need to work more on those situations – all the rest was okay.

“It was not easy to organise friendlies and the board did a fantastic job. I always think you need to have stronger opponents in pre-season and if you don’t have it you are not going to have the same level of synchronisation.”
