Foreign legion Aid Wilson’s education

- By CHRIS JACK

AIDAN WILSON reckons the arrival of Rangers’ foreign legion will help him go from strength to strength at Ibrox this season.

The defender made his Gers bow against Aberdeen last month and retained his place in the side for the win over St Johnstone on the final day of the campaign.

Boss Pedro Caixinha has kept Wilson in his squad during Rangers’ pre-season preparations as he gets set for the Light Blues’ return to the Europa League and the new Premiership term.

The captures of Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso have bolstered Caixinha’s defensive options and given Wilson extra competition for a starting spot.

But the 18-year-old is eager to learn from the newcomers.

“It has been great. There are obviously a lot of new faces and a different style of play,” Wilson told the Official Rangers Podcast.

“But it has been really good to get a different environment around the place and you learn things from these new players.

“It is very different to a Scottish player. The way they play and the way they conduct themselves, you learn a lot from them. It has been really good and I have really enjoyed it.

“Last year we didn’t see a lot of a pathway through to the first team under Mark Warburton. But the new manager has brought a lot of the younger boys through, even in training, so there is a better pathway.

“For me personally, it has been great making my debut. Obviously you look to the first team and try to see when that is going to come true and I was delighted when I got called in.

“He has been great and shown a lot of trust in us. Obviously me, Myles [Beerman], Jamie Barjonas, we are the ones that have made the appearances but he has shown trust in all the other boys who have come into training and done well. It is great for the Academy.”
