Yob spared jail over vile chant on Celtic star
THE racist yob who filmed himself chanting vile abuse about Celtic star Scott Sinclair has been spared jail.
Robert Anderson, 27, appeared in the dock from custody at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Mobile phone footage of Anderson chanting as he walked through a Glasgow pub about the Hoops winger was uploaded to the internet and went viral.
Anderson admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on May 21 by “repeatedly uttering an abusive, sectarian and racial remark and did record yourself repeatedly uttering said remark with a mobile phone”.
The charge Anderson, from Tollcross, Glasgow, admitted has a religious prejudice and racial aggravation.
Yesterday sheriff Margaret Liddell handed Anderson a community payback order with the condition he must carry out 250 hours of unpaid work.
Procurator fiscal depute Ruth Ross-Davie: “Around about 8pm on May 21, Mr Anderson went to McChuill’s bar on High Street, Glasgow.
“He began singing, including the phrase ‘Scott Sinclair is a dirty f***** n*****” and recorded himself on his own mobile telephone doing this.
“He had gone in to the bar to meet with a friend who he understood had recently had a bereavement.”
The police were contacted and Anderson handed himself in after the footage went viral.
Miss Ross-Davie added: “During interview he accepted his actions had been idiotic, that he did not have these types of views and he felt he would not have behaved in the manner he did, had he been sober.”
On the last occasion defence lawyer David Tod said: “Somebody other than him put this on social media. He then contacted me and asked me to contact the police.He made full and frank admissions.”
Since the footage was seen widely online, it has been reported Anderson is now barred from McChuill’s.
