CONTROVERSIAL parking charges are to be introduced in more West End streets.

Parking bays, permits and a new one-way system will be introduced in Partick next month as part of new plans.

Glasgow City Council previously faced backlash after putting the same measures in place on Byres Road.

Signs have been put up in Patrick and Partickhill informing residents of the changes which are aimed at removing the current commuter parking problem and create better parking availability for residents and l ocal businesses.

Work to transform the area between Hyndland Street and Fortrose Street into metered parking bays will sart on July 24.

Streets involved include Anderson Street, Burgh Hall Street, Caird Drive, Fordyce Street, Fortrose Street, Gardner Street, Gullane Street, Hyndland Avenue, Hyndland Road, Hyndland Street, Lawrie Street, North Gardner Street, Partickhill Road, Stewartville Street and White Street.

As of next month, residents will be required to pay £50 per year for a parking permit, or £15 quarterly.

Businesses will be charged £700 per year for a permit which allows parking for an unlimited amount of time.

A parking permit for visitors will cost £2 for six hours.

Metres will be in operation between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday and will cost 20p for the first 30 minutes and then 20p every 10 minutes thereafter, for a maximum of three hours.

A one-way system will be created to improve traffic flow in the areas where new rules will be in place.

A council spokeswoman said: “These parking controls will remove the current commuter parking problem in the area and create better parking availability for residents and local businesses.

“We have lettered both residents and businesses outlining the works involved. Further details of the road closures, timetable, programme of works and description of the new road signage is available online.”
