Deal sealed for new city cinema
THE Vue cinema chain has been revealed as the big name behind a new multiplex at Glasgow’s St Enoch Centre.
The shopping centre is set to welcome a new ninescreen cinema as part of a multi-million pound development.
It has emerged the Vue cinema will be opening in the former BHS store to the rear of the St Enoch Centre.
The new multiplex and accompanying restaurants will open its doors in 2019 and is expected to create a number of full and part-time jobs.
Anne Ledgerwood, General Manager of St Enoch Centre, said: “Retail has changed considerably in recent years and people are increasingly seeking to incorporate eating and entertainment into their shopping experience.
“Glasgow is justifiably proud of its reputation as the leading shopping destination outside London and the addition of a cinema will allow us to continue to develop St Enoch Centre and offer a first class experience for shoppers and visitors to the city.
“The development will also help to create a more connected city centre by reclaiming outdoor space for pedestrians as well as strengthening the connection with Buchanan Street and improving links to the waterfront.”
The cinema will be located on the upper level of the former BHS site at the east end of the centre with additional retailing on the ground floor.
The new leisure facilities will be accessible from enhanced entrances on Dunlop Street and Osbourne Street in a bid to strengthen the link into Argyle Street and improve pedestrian experiences. Morisons Solicitors concluded the deal on behalf of Vue Entertainment which represents a multi-million pound investment.
Andrew Warren, Real Estate Team Partner with Morisons, who worked closely with UK Law firm Irwin Mitchell in securing the deal said: “This is great news for Glasgow city centre and it is anticipated it will provide the catalyst for further food outlet openings attracted by the increased footfall generated by the cinema.”
