FIVE IN HOSPITAL AFTER M8 CRASH

FIVE people are in hospital today after a multivehic­le crash on one of the city’s busiest roads.

The M8 rush-hour crash at junction 25A at Cardonald prompted a large emergency response while motorists faced delays due to lane closures.

Crime Reporter FIVE people are in hospital after a serious road crash on one of the main routes in and out of Glasgow.

The M8 came to a standstill this morning at rush hour just before 9am after the multi-vehicle collision on the motorway at junction 25A westbound at Cardonald.

The road was blocked while emergency services dealt with the large-scale incident.

One motorist, who contacted The Evening Times and did not want to be named, said: “There seems to have been a massive accident here with several vehicles involved.

“It’s causing mayhem at the moment and all the emergency services are out in force.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service said five people were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Their condition is not known.

Four ambulances, a paramedic response unit and a manager were, however, sent to the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service reported that five vehicles were involved in the crash.

A spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to reports of five cars being involved in a collision on the M8, near Junction 25A, Braehead.

“Firefighte­rs attended and left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Police Scotland said that lane one of road remained closed.

Meanwhile at the other side of the M8, a car went up in flames forcing the closure of a slip road.

The lane was shut eastbound at Junction 10 Bartiebeit­h in the East End of Glasgow.

The blaze happened at 7.35am today leading to smoke billowing across the busy road.

Emergency services also dealt with two further road incidents last night in the city.

In Summerston, a motorist was rescued after a car overturned just after 6pm.

The woman was not taken to hospital follow a rescue by firefighte­rs on Invershiel Road.

In Rutherglen, firefighte­rs tackled a car blaze on a busy road just after 5.30pm.

The car was on fire i n the Cathkin Relief Road at Fernhill.
