Festivals will be fun for the whole family

- By ANN FOTHERINGHAM

SUMMER holiday fun cranks up a gear at the end of this month as Glasgow gets into the festival spirit.

Easterhouse arts centre Platform, the popular hub at the heart of The Bridge in Easterhouse, is bringing two family festivals to the city on July 29 and 30.

The upcoming festivals at Alexandra Park and The Bridge are packed with a whole host of activities and things to do for people of all ages.

A colourful carnival parade kicks off the Alexandra Park Festival Day on Saturday, July 29.

There will also be live music, a fine collection of food and market stalls, plenty of kids activities for all ages and a range of ever-popular inflatables on the bill.

Entertainment starts at 12noon and runs until 4pm and entry is free.

Following the runaway success of last year’s The Bridge Family Festival Day, it returns on Sunday, July 30 at 1000 Westerhouse Road. There will be opportunities to enjoy live music, including the best local talent, plus a packed programme of children’s activities, sports taster events and community stalls.

Listen out for the carnival drummers, dive in to the swimming pool party, and take advantage of fantastic local products at the Made in Easterhouse market with homemade arts, crafts, food and clothes.

It’s also on from noon until 4pm and entry is free.

Platform launched in 2006 and since then the award-winning leisure, learning and arts facility has been hailed as an important community hub, providing high quality, accessible cultural events and a varied and diverse programme of music, visual art and performance.
