Boozy brothers in hot water for hotel blow up

- By COURT REPORTER

TWO brothers who kicked off in a city centre hotel after being refused a room have appeared in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Thomas Hardie Jnr, 27, and his brother, Robbie Hardie, 24, went to the ibis hotel on West Regent Street around 11.05pm on January 19 last year and demanded a room.

After approaching the reception desk, the pair stated that they would “only pay the price of the nearby ibis”.

Hotel staff told the brothers, who were seen to be highly intoxicated, that they would not get a room at that price.

Instead of leaving the premises, one of the brothers attempted to get in a lift despite being told by staff that they were not allowed.

After being asked to leave, the pair eventually made their way towards the exit followed by the hotel staff.

Thomas Hardie Jnr, of Holland Street, then became agitated and violent. He pushed a male member of staff to the chest before attempting to punch him.

His punch missed the intended victim and he ended up striking another member of staff with his elbow.

Robbie Hardie, who is currently serving time at HM Barlinnie Prison, followed his brother’s lead and also became aggressive.

He was heard shouting that he was going to ‘do the workers in’.

Both members of ibis staff became fearful of their safety and called the police.

The Hardie brothers were eventually identified through CCTV and picked up by police.

They appeared in the dock together after pleading guilty to acting in a threatening or abusive manner, and assaulting two work- ers by pushing them on the body. Thomas’ defence agent told the court that his client had taken his younger brother to the hotel to book him into a room for the night and now realises that staff were just doing their job and they should have left and gone somewhere else.

The 27-year-old avoided custody and instead will be under supervision by the social work department for 12 months.

Robbie Hardie, who is currently in custody for another matter, had his sentencing deferred for a further four months.
