Sanjeev’s call for 2018 sport event volunteers

- By STACEY MULLEN

STILL Game favourite Sanjeev Kohli has appealed for people to ‘get in amongst it’ and apply to become a Glasgow 2018 European Championships volunteer.

The actor, who plays Navid in the hit BBC show, urged aspiring volunteers to apply before the deadline at midnight on July 31.

The Glasgow 2018 European Championships will bring more than 3,000 of the best athletes to the city. They will compete for the chance to become European Champion across a range of venues in Scotland from August 2-12, next year.

Organisers will recruit thousands of volunteers to play an essential role in the experience.

Sanjeev said: “The people of Scotland have never been ones to shy away from lending a hand and helping out where it’s required and I can’t wait to see that spirit shine again during Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

“The Glasgow 2018 volunteers will play an absolutely vital role in rolling out of that world-renowned welcome to the thousands of athletes, officials and spectators arriving as part of the event and making sure they have the best time possible whilst they are here.”

He added: “There are lots of people who have already applied to volunteer and to those people I say ‘ya dancer’.

“And to those still thinking about it I say, don’t delay. Get in amongst it, learn new skills, meet new people and have the time of your life.”

A diverse range of volunteering roles are available from spectator services and accreditation, to transport, media and much more.

With just over a week to go until applications close, Sanjeev, who is also the official Volunteer Ambassador for the Championships, visited Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club.

He wanted to find out a bit more about the volunteers and make a special appeal for people to get their Glasgow 2018 volunteering applications in.

Stella Hawthorne has been a volunteer at Clydesdale ARC since 2014. She said: “I am delighted to see that volunteers will once again play an integral role at a major sporting event in Scotland and everyone at Clydesdale ARC wishes everyone the best of luck for 2018.”
