No fear for Clyde at Ayr, says Daz

- By GRAEME McGARRY

CLYDE goal hero Darren Miller says that his side have nothing to fear going into their final Betfred Cup group stage game at Ayr United tonight.

Miller, who scored as the Bully Wee came back from a goal down to defeat Championship side Dumbarton on Saturday to give themselves a shot at qualifying for the knockout stage, thinks they can pull off another giant-killing feat at Somerset Park.

And he says that he and his team-mates thrive on their underdog status, and seem to perform better when facing adversity.

“Going into the competition, I don’t think we were expected to be anywhere near where we are just now,” Miller told the Clyde website.

“We have nothing to fear going down to Ayr. All of the boys want to play in these games against clubs in higher divisions and there is no point in showing up if you don’t think you’re going to win.

“We’ve got a good team. We’re good together but sometimes we just don’t do the easy things right early on, then we have to do the hard things, like going a goal behind and coming back.

“It’s a good changing room, all the boys are in it together and we have the potential this season to really make a mark.

“If you hear Jim Chapman at half-time or before the game, he knows what he’s talking about, he knows what it takes to win and he knows the right players to put on the park. John Joyce is really good as well; they work well together and bring out the best in people. I don’t want to come here and get beat, I’d tackle my granny to win.

“Clyde always has potential and I think it’s one of the best clubs you can play at, at this level. There’s a good stadium, a good set up... you’ve got everything here.

“This year will be different from last year, we’ve got a lot more attacking players and I think we’ll score a lot more goals.”
