Young girl’s cancer story is a page-turner

-

BRAEHEAD Clan have sponsored a young cancer patient’s book about life in hospital.

Lydia Yilmaz, four, started drawing during her visits to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow as a distraction from her Leukaemia treatment.

Now, she wants to help other young patients in similar situations and is publishing I Like to Go to the Hospital.

Proceeds from sales of the book will go to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity who have been one of the Clan’s chosen charity partners over the last year.

Clan forward Bari McKenzie was at the book launch supporting the event and said: “I’m delighted to be supporting this. Lydia is a very smart and courageous little girl who has achieved so much and has done her family proud.”

Bari has also invited Lydia and her family along to a match this season, which will be Lydia’s first ever ice hockey match.

Lydia was diagnosed in November 2015 and went through four rounds of chemotherapy. It left her so weak she couldn’t walk.

I Like to Go to the Hospital is a collection of Lydia’s bright drawings and thoughts from her journal of “funny things”, which she started on her cancer ward. Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity recently launched its Schiehallion Appeal, which aims to raise £500,000 to help young cancer patients receive potentially life-saving treatment.
