Tommo: Make mine a double

- By Christopher Jack

JORDAN THOMPSON hopes he can fulfil two dreams this term as he bids to break through for club and country.

The 20-year-old impressed during a loan stint in the Championship with Raith Rovers last season and has spent the summer training with the Rangers first team squad.

Thompson hasn’t made a competitive appearance for the Gers since coming off the bench during the second half of the League Cup win over East Stirlingshire 12 months ago.

But he was part of the Northern Ireland Under-21 side, who are managed by former Motherwell boss Ian Baraclough, that beat Estonia in a European Championship qualifier last month.

Now he wants to make his mark for Rangers as he bids to earn a spot in Michael O’Neill’s squad sooner rather than later.

“We have a new manager and he just wants us to keep playing football as much as we can and keep working hard,” he told RangersTV.

“That was a brilliant result and to kick off the campaign like that was amazing. Steve Davis sent us a video message which was brilliant and got all the boys up for it.

“Michael O’Neill has got it going right through the full system. We’re hard to break down, but everyone wants to be on the ball and wants to impress to try and get that step-up to the first team.

“Michael, a few months ago, came over to watch one of our games when we were away, and he was telling us how he’s always keeping an eye on us, and if I make a few appearances for Rangers’ first team then that’s going to be massive and only going to help me.”
