Curious George wary of new Gers

- By CHRIS JACK

GEORGE BOYD admits Rangers will be a far different proposition this time out as he gets set to face the Light Blues for the third successive summer.

The striker will make his home bow when Pedro Caixinha’s side take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough tomorrow afternoon.

The friendly fixture will be Rangers’ final warm-up for the new Premiership campaign as the countdown continues to the top flight opener against Motherwell.

Boyd was part of the Burnley side that won 3-1 at Ibrox 12 months ago as Sean Dyche’s side followed up their 1-0 victory from the previous summer.

And the former Scotland forward is looking forward to meeting the Gers once again as boss Caixinha finalises his Premiership preparations.

“As a team, we like to press high and put in a lot of hard work and we are playing some good football at the minute,” he told the Official Rangers Podcast.

“It will be great with all their fans coming down. I was there the last few years with Burnley so I know what the crowd will be like and it will be like a proper game.

“This will be our first one and our only home game so far. It will be my home debut and my kids are going to come and watch so that will be nice.

“With Warburton, it was a different style to what they are used to now and they played a lot of football from the back.

“It is a different style but it is a team that will come down and try and get some confidence going into the new season.

“I have seen there has been a lot of player movement and the manager wants to get his own ideas in and players in, which is fair enough.”
