Double delight as twins make grade
THERE was a double celebration in one Glasgow household as a set of twin sisters received their SQA exam results.
Carmen and Lauren Wright, both 16, were left beaming after getting their marks.
The pair were congratulated at Bannerman High School by Education secretary John Swinney. Carmen got five Highers, two of which were As. She said: “I was so pleased when I found out my marks. I was a wee bit disappointed with my Bs but delighted that I got As in my two favourite subjects (Geography & Maths) and it means I will be able to take Advanced Higher Geography.”
Twin sister Lauren got five As and is looking to go on study Accountancy & Finance at Edinburgh University.
She commented: “Oh my gosh, I was laughing and crying when I opened my results. I’m so delighted. So delighted for both of us as we have worked really hard and this has paid off.”
John Swinney congratulated staff and pupils on their hard-work during a visit to the Baillieston school.
He said: “I would like to congratulate our young people, and their teachers, for their hard work and effort. The whole country should rightly be proud of the excellence and achievement in Scottish education demonstrated by these results.
“We expect to see small variations in pass rates year-on-year, which demonstrate the high standards, strength and integrity of our national qualifications. This is of paramount importance.
“The much greater range of qualifications and skills-based awards demonstrates Curriculum for Excellence is successfully meeting the needs of young people and giving them the best chance of success in further learning, life and work. It is the right reform for Scottish education.
“The further steps we have set out to close the attainment gap and raise standards for all will build on these solid foundations.”
