All aboard for launch of canal festival

KIRKINTILL­OCH canal festival gets under way today with a week of family friendly activities.

Boat trips are available daily and there are a host of events including a roller disco, canoeing, archery, stone-carving sessions and a night time cycle ride.

There will also be stalls, food, silk painting and mini-golf at the college campus.

A 1940s/50s-style tea dance will take place in Club Bliss on Wednesday (7pm-9pm) and Saturday (1pm-3pm).

Dunbartons­hire Concert Band and Kirkintill­och Male Voice Choir will be performing, along with Coppers on the Canal.

The festival concludes with a free firework display at the harbour on Sunday night.

Gillian Renwick, deputy leader of East Dunbartons­hire council, said: “I hope as many people as possible take the chance to enjoy the wealth of family fun and entertainm­ent on offer.

“There really is something for everyone, from boat trips and classic cars to roller discos and interactiv­e arts. The festival provides a chance for Kirkintill­och to welcome visitors from all over East Dunbartons­hire and beyond, boosting the economy and showcasing local attraction­s.”
