Catalan class for Clyde’s Norrie
CLYDE chairman Norrie Innes has had a Senor moment – after meeting former Scotland star Steve Archibald.
Archibald kick-started his career with the Bully Wee before going on to play for Aberdeen, Spurs and Barcelona in a glittering career.
Innes spoke with the former star during a trip to Catalonia where was invited to take in the Barcelona B squad’s training and pre-season matches.
Innes said: “Steve acknowledges the important grounding and shaping he had at Clyde and this was reflected in his gritty and funny stories.
“After some Clyde chat, we went on to share our thoughts and ideas over many footballing matters.
“He is steeped in footballing success at the very top level within Europe. He is enjoying life there and is held in such very high regard.”
Archibald signed a Clyde jersey, which is set to be auctioned at the club’s 2017 Sportsman’s Dinner later this year.
And the Barcelona B squad – likely containing many stars of the future – also autographed a shirt.
Meanwhile, Clyde confirmed David Crawford has joined the club in the role of goalkeeping coach.
Crawford, 32, has made over 300 senior appearances in the Scottish game and signed with the Bully Wee as a player in 2011.
Manager Jim Chapman said: “We’ve worked with David before and he’s a good type. He is currently going through his coaching qualifications, so it’s a good fit for both parties and we’re very happy with the arrangement.
“David is primarily going to be a coach and not registered as player, but he has kept himself in good shape and he could provide back-up.”
