Bren: Tripp magic touch can rub off in Aladdin Cup

- By SCOTT MULLEN

BRAEHEAD Clan playerassistant coach Brendan Brooks admits he’s impressed at how things are shaping up on the eve of the new campaign.

The Clan head to Cardiff Devils today then to Nottingham Panthers tomorrow in Aladdin Cup action after a gruelling week of practice.

Brooks says he’s enjoy- ing working new under coach John Tripp and sees these two games as more of a chance to gauge where the team are right now.

“My first impressions are we’re looking good in the first few days of camp,” said Brooks.

“Everyone’s working really hard. It’s been tough, but very professional and enjoyable.

“John and I have established a good relationship and I think I’m going to enjoy working with him throughout this season.

“He believes in fitness and conditioning and I believe you have to do that to be able to compete.

“You have to be able to play 60 minutes and we have the same ideas on the game.

“Going to Nottingham and Cardiff is going to be tough because we are short-handed at the mo- ment, but this is a chance for us to make sure we’re in the best shape for the season starting.

“We’ll also work on systems so there’s going to be plenty of ice time for guys this weekend and they get the chance to compete.”

Meanwhile, Callum Boyd has sealed a return move to Edinburgh Capitals following a season in the purple of Braehead.

The 23-year-old is back after a year away and ready to go for his second spell at the club where he played between 2014 and 2016.

“Even when I was playing at Braehead last season I still felt I had a good bond with the Caps fans,” Boyd said.

“I’ve got a good feeling about this year and I’ve been given a great opportunity to work under someone like Dmitri Khristich.”
