Man for court after stabbing

AMAN was facing court today on a charge of attempted murder following an alleged stabbing near Central Station.

The incident happened at the Newsbox store in Gordon Street as revellers were heading for trains home.

A MAN was due to appear in court today in connection with a late evening stabbing in a city centre newsagents.

The incident on Saturday night is alleged to have happened at Newsbox in Gordon Street at the approach to Central Station.

Police cordoned off the pavement as weekend revellers were making their way to the station to catch trains home.

The city centre was busy with people who had earlier attended the Pride Glasgow 2017 event at Glasgow Green.

A spokeswoma­n for Police Scotland said: “A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a 24-year-old man in Gordon Street around 9.50pm on Saturday.

“The injured man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where the hospital describe his condition as serious, but stable.”

It’s expected the accused will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

Meanwhile, a separate attempted murder probe has been launched hospital after a man was stabbed following a disturbanc­e in a children’s playpark.

The 29-year-old was assaulted in the Royston area of Glasgow on Saturday evening.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to stab wounds after being found seriously injured near Royston Road and Charles Street.

Hospital staff describe his condition as serious but stable, police said.

Officers are treating the incident, which happened after 8pm, as attempted murder.

Detective Inspector Phil Peacock, of Maryhill police office, said: “A disturbanc­e took place around 8.15pm within the children’s playpark area at Charles Street between a group of men, and we are carrying out inquiries in the local area and gathering CCTV footage in an effort to gain more informatio­n on this incident and identify those involved.”

Any witnesses to the incident are being urged to contact police.
