Window cleaner stashed heroin haul in Kinder Egg

- By HANNAH RODGER

A WINDOW cleaner was snared selling heroin stashed in a Kinder Egg by undercover cops.

Graham Clark, 40, was spotted by officers on Spring Wynd in the Gorbals on October 3, last year, after they received a tip-off about his illicit activities.

Officers were told about a man selling the class A drug from a Citroen van with the initials C.A.S on the side and went to the area in an attempt to catch him in the act.

Clark appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing before Sheriff Bonnar this week after pleading guilty to supplying drugs.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court: “Police witnesses were in the road in an unmarked police vehicle when they observed said van parked in a car park.

“They observed a male acting in a suspicious manner standing next to an open driver door.”

Clark was seen putting items into the pocket of the door.

The police then drove up and parked directly behind the van and Clark immediately went into his vehicle, locking the doors.

A court heard: “A search of the van was initiated and [police] recovered a bag containing brown powder and also a Kinder Egg containing five wraps.”

Around 24g of heroin was found in total, worth around £250 if sold in £10 bags, according to the Procurator Fiscal.

Clark, of Durban Avenue in Clydebank, had bought the drugs for “personal use”, his solicitor told Sheriff Bonnar.

The lawyer said: “He purchased a quantity of drugs for his own personal use.

“He knows some people who live close to the locus and supplied the drugs to these people.

“For background he was struggling with using heroin and he got involved in this offence to fund that habit.

“There are previous convictions under the misuse of drugs acts.”

The solicitor also explained that Clark, who earns around £1000 a month as a window cleaner, has now got a grip of his drug habit which was affecting him at the time of the offence.

Sheriff Bonnar said Clark could have been given jail time for the offence however he had been “just persuaded that an alternative is available.”

He handed him a restriction of liberty order, forcing him to stay at home between 7pm and 5am for the next five months.
