Souttar’s calm over Hearts job decision
JOHN SOUTTAR reckons there is no rush for Hearts to name their new boss while Jon Daly remains in temporary charge.
The Irishman returned to Ibrox on Saturday and saw his side earn a hard-fought point against Pedro Caixinha’s side.
The draw with the Gers came a week after Hearts got their first Premiership win on the board with victory over Kilmarnock.
Daly has done his chances of landing the job on a permanent basis no harm in the last couple of weeks as he has steadied the ship following Ian Cathro’s departure.
And defender Souttar is confident the 34-year-old will continue to lead by example for as long as his services are required at Tynecastle.
He said: “You see all the boys’ commitment. He’s got a great relationship with the players. He’s had a good case for it. It’s always hard when there’s an interim manager but the relationship he has with the players helps.
“Everyone believes in what he’s saying and when he speaks everyone listens. We’re not too fussed [when it is resolved]. It’s happened.
“We’re settled. It’s not like we’re losing. We’ve won and drawn. I’m sure from our point of view there’s no rush.”
Hearts found themselves on the back foot for much of the afternoon at Ibrox but stood firm to earn a share of the spoils.
Souttar almost opened the scoring in spectacular style as he struck Wes Foderingham’s bar from 30 yards in the first half.
But it was his performance at the other end of the field alongside captain Christophe Berra that was the key factor for the Jambos.
Souttar said: “The big man has been good for me. I’ve learned a lot from him in his short time here. I thought we were comfortable but it’s a big pitch and it’s always tough. I felt we did well and got the result.”
