Sunshine on Leith as Doc leaves Hibs feeling sick

TALKING WELL

- By JACK McCURRACH

DARIAN MACKINNON hailed midfield maestro Greg Docherty as Hamilton stunned Hibernian at Easter Road.

Martin Canning’s side clinched an eye-catching 3-1 win in Leith as they followed up their victory against Dundee with another crucial Premiership triumph.

Rakish Bingham hit a brace either side of a Louis Longridge strike to put Accies in control of the game and well on course for all three points.

But it was the performance of Docherty that stood out as the 20-yearold turned in an accomplished showing in the middle of the park.

Anthony Stokes scored late on for Neil Lennon’s side but there was no denying Hamilton a memorable win.

And MacKinnon was delighted to see his mid- field partner showcasing his talents once again in the top flight.

“I said to Greg before the game that [John] McGinn is the guy he needs to look towards, because they are similar sort of players,” he said.

“I said that if you can go and get the better of him then it will let people take notice of you again.

“John McGinn is an international and – I won’t say Greg ran over him, that is disrespectful - but he definitely got the better of him on the day.”

Victory at Easter Road sees Hamilton move up to fourth spot in the Premiership standings after they made it two wins from three games so far this term.

It has been a solid start to the season from a side that were widely tipped to once again be battling to beat the drop.

And Bingham was encouraged with the quality of their play on an important afternoon for boss Canning. He said: “We have always had the ability to score and we have believed that – now it’s starting to show on the pitch.

“That can only help confidence going into the rest of the season.

“We played with a lot of quality, confidence, passed it well and created good opportunities. Importantly, we took the chances we had.”
