Perfect Anfield bow for Robbo

- By KIERAN PORTER

SCOTLAND defender Andrew Robertson has revealed his delight at marking his eagerlyawaited Liverpool debut with a man-of-the-match display against Crystal Palace.

The former Dundee United and Queen’s Park full-back was made to wait for his maiden appearance for the Reds following his £10 million switch from Hull City this summer.

But he did not disappoint in making his bow in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Palace.

The Scotland star was hailed for his attacking threat on the left flank, swinging in a series of dangerous crosses, and was also defensively sound in an eye-catching show.

He said: “[I’m] delighted to make my debut at Anfield. It was a good performance from the lads and important to get the win.

“It’s always nice to keep a clean sheet. We focus on Wednesday now.”

He added: “The gaffer made a few changes from the Champions League and the Watford game and a few of the boys got a rest, but our squad is good and anyone that comes in can compete for a place.

“We know we’re not weaker and I think we proved that against Crystal Palace. It was difficult but it was all about getting the three points.”

Robertson was left out of the Liverpool squad entirely for the 3-3 draw with Watford on the opening weekend of the Premier League season and for the Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim in midweek.

But ahead of the Wednesday’s return leg with the Germans, manager Jurgen Klopp was thrilled with the left-back after he was finally presented with his opportunity.

Klopp said: “I think everyone can see how good Robbo can be, especially in the offensive situations. His crosses are really threatening.

“If we think a little about how we would feel if we played our first game at Anfield, you cannot be full of joy, there’s a lot of pressure. He did really well and it was no surprise, there is no doubt about the quality.”
