Hunt for kind strangers who helped injured Amy

- By STACEY MULLEN

THE family of a schoolgirl who was left with serious head injuries after she was struck by a car have praised two good samaritans who helped her.

Amy Morrison, 12, was hit by a Vauxhall Astra travelling westbound while crossing Rodger Drive in Rutherglen.

The incident happened as the first year pupil was making her way home from Stonelaw High School at around 4.10pm on Tuesday, August 22.

Her mum Kirsty has now praised two members of the pub- lic who rushed to her daughter’s aid – and wants to thank them personally for their quick response.

Kirsty explained a man held her daughter’s head which was wounded following the incident while another woman, who was a nurse, also assisted at the scene.

Kirsty said: “I just want to thank them for being there when me and Amy’s dad couldn’t be there. You want to be there when your child even falls off their bike and scrapes their knee – you want to be the one who cuddles them.

“I wasn’t there and her dad wasn’t there, and for the minutes after the crash they were there for her.”

She added: “There is nothing I can say to them that will ever make up for what they did for Amy.”

The schoolgirl is now making a good recovery although she was left with some serious head injuries. A fracture at the front of her skull has left a graze which could scar. Amy also had a cut at the back of her head which had to be stitched and glued.

The youngster’s injuries meant some of her hair was removed to allow treatment.

She will spend the next few weeks at home recovering with her family before returning to school.

But the family want to get in touch with the two people who helped her at the scene particularly as they calmed down the schoolgirl who was scared after being hit. Police urged witnesses to come forward.
