Deadly Daly downsRabs after thriller

-

passed up a dream equalising opportunity after he headed over from close range when it looked easier to score.

THE fuse was duly lit for a barnstorming finish on 75 minutes as Arthurlie winger Chris Lennon’s low cross was turned home by McKenzie after a miskick from Daly dropped into his path.

Seven minutes later former Pollok hitman Daly rose unchallenged at the back post and directed a header beyond McKinven to secure a hard fought victory for Lie.

Midfield playmaker Spence said afterwards: “We were all over the place for a 20 minute spell and playing as if shell- shocked but I always believed if we could get back to 3-3 then the game was ours for the taking.

“It was fitting that Colin should be the man to get our equaliser as he was outstanding today though I do think he should be fined for trying to dink their keeper at 2-0.”

Dejected Rabs gaffer Stewart Maxwell said: “I don’t think we deserved to lose and if there’s a lesson to be learned from today it’s that playing good football in this league is not everything.

“At 3-2, I thought we might go on to win by a few more goals but we just couldn’t get another score to put the game to bed.”

There was no shortage of comeback stories in other topflight games with Auchinleck Talbot netting four goals in the closing 15 minutes for a 4-1 victory over ten-man Hurlford United.

Kilwinning Rangers ran out 4-2 winners at home to Clydebank despite trailing 2-1 at Abbey Park.

Beith raised more than a few eyebrows with a 5-0 triumph over Glenafton while Adam Forsyth scored the only goal of the game as Cumnock beat Pollok.

Elsewhere, Kilbirnie Ladeside defeated Lok last week but were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in a 0-0 stalemate at home to Girvan.
