get the things he wants and of course he will keep working hard but he has more confidence when he is in front of goal and has the final shot.

“Daniel was brilliant in the first half with great deliveries. He is always available. I know him because I worked with him before so I know he would be the type who would come here and work perfectly.

“Fabio needs to understand the duels, the balls up in the air, the fight the strikes place on him.

“But he’s a young boy, he’s very gifted and he has the best professor on his side. He is definitely going to grow and be a very good player for our squad.

“You saw how many times [Pena] gets in the box, even from wide left. He is going to get used to it and he will get the right rhythm.

“I have no doubts about the type of player we have. They are team players, we just need to give them time and give them confidence.”

Caixinha took heart from the way that his side managed to dig out a win in the second half that had looked to be a formality after a blistering first-half performance.

The Rangers boss wasn’t too concerned about the lull from his men in the second half, choosing to focus more on how they got over the line by hook or by crook.

“Sometimes that happens in a game,” he said. “I was pleased with the first half, I didn’t like the way we lost easily some passes that led to the goal in the second half.

“That also led to the momentum of the game shifting. Games like this teach us that the games are about winning. We are back to winnings ways which is the most important thing.”

Caixinha will leave his transfer business in the hands of Director of Football Mark Allen during the international break.

“Mark will be in charge of it,” he said. “I will go to Portugal for a class in the university and we will be in contact with Mark. We know what we want and we are working on what we want and we hope to do it.”
