MORE than £4million is to be spent revamping a town centre – and locals have been urged to have their say on the plans.

West Dunbartonshire Council will be splashing the cash in Clydebank, transforming pedestrian, cycle and traffic routes as part of the Connecting Clydebank scheme.

Along with Sustrans Scotland, which has given a provisional £2m towards the scheme, the council is holding a drop-in session at the Town Hall to hear local residents’ and businesses’ views.

The scheme is hoped to improve walking and cycling in the area from the Town Hall on Glasgow Road to the Queens Quay.

The central reservation between Hall Street and Hume street will be removed, junctions will be repositioned and roads raised to pavement level to make it easier to cross.

A 20mph speed limit on a section of the A814 will also be brought in as a safety and traffic-calming measure.

Councillor Iain McLaren, Infrastructure, Regeneration & Economic Development spokesman, said: “The plans that have been developed for this project are truly transformational. There is so much great work going on in the town and to be able to make it an even more attractive place for cyclists and pedestrians is something that we are firmly in support of.”

The drop in will be on Tuesday, September 12 between 3pm and 8pm
