Mod wants to be hammer of Scots

- By IAIN COLLIN

MODESTAS Vorobjovas has already stunned Scotland as part of the FK Trakai side that dumped St Johnstone out of Europe.

Now the Lithuania midfielder is determined to live the dream against Gordon Strachan’s side tomorrow night.

Vorobjovas, 21, has been handed his maiden call-up to the senior squad by boss Edgaras Jankauskas following a blistering start to the season at club level.

The tough tackler helped Trakai – currently second in the Lithuanian top-flight – defeat the Saints and Swedish cracks Norrkoping in Europa League qualification before ultimately losing to Shkendija.

And he could top a breakout campaign with his international bow in Vilnius.

Vorobjovas smiled: “I was waiting for the call and waiting for the call – you always hope to represent your national team.

“So, perhaps the call-up was not not a complete surprise, but that doesn’t mean I felt any less joy. It was an incredible feeling.

“I think I can bring some defensive strength to the team and help the team. Hopefully the coach [Jankauskas] feels the same way. I would love to play against Scotland or Slovenia – that would be the fulfilment of my dream when I started kicking a football.

“However, there is no limit to perfection, and I know I still have a lot to learn so I will try to improve and work hard while I’m with the international squad.”
